Painted outside on the edge of Colorado’s Front Range, this piece carries the rhythm of wind, dirt, and sunlight layered right into the paint itself. I used both acrylic and oil, mixing in bits of sand and soil from the area so the landscape literally lives within the work. It’s an abstract interpretation — not of a single mountain, but of the feeling of standing there — open, still, surrounded by movement.
Each mark came from that raw experience: long stretches of quiet, sudden gusts of color, and the slow build of texture as the light changed. The palette is neutral and grounded — soft clay, pale smoke, stone, and shadow — a reflection of the Western terrain that keeps changing even when you think it’s still.
